Marrakech is a metropolis of many components, on the coronary heart of which sits the thousand-year-old, Unesco Heritage website of the walled medina. Contained in the medina, at its core, is the Djemaa el-Fna, town‘s fabled sq. filled with storytellers and snake charmers. Surrounding it throughout the mud-brick partitions are the neighbourhoods of Mouassine, Bab Doukkala, Kaat Benahid, Derb Debachi and Riad Zitoun. To the south, in an additional walled enclosure is the royal Kasbah the place the king’s official palace is positioned. Outdoors the medina partitions, to the west, is the Ville Nouvelle, the ‘New Metropolis’ created by the French in 1912, whereas a few kilometres to the north is the suburb of the Palmeraie, which because the title suggests, sits in an oasis of palms.
Located at arm’s size from the hustle of the souks, Bab Doukkala is the prime place to see what the Medina is like in its downtime. Largely residential, it incorporates a day by day vegetable market in addition to group hammams, bakeries and cybercafes the place locals linger to speak to their neighbours. Behind the principle drag you’ll discover tranquil riads and good eating places and the golf equipment of the Ville Nouvelle are a brief taxi journey away.
